Sharp Verge:

(noun) A cutting-edge independent film production and distribution company specializing in witty and accessible stories.

Sharp Verge, a male-oriented film company, requested a mascot that conveyed a sense of importance while still being “gentle.” It would serve as the company’s official logo and be printed on everything from t-shirts to billboards. Therefore, a bold yet simplistic design was needed.

The Ibex:

After doing some research, I ultimately decided the IBEX - a species of mountain goat - would be a perfect visual representation for everything Sharp Verge stands for.

From a design perspective, the Ibex is bold and intimidating, adorned with massive curled horns and a flowing mane, presenting as regal as the renowned MGM lion. But by nature, the Ibex is a gentle and rather docile presence by comparison. Furthermore, Ibex’s are expert climbers, performing death-defying feats of mountainside traversal that seem to ignore the rules of gravity. It feels fitting, then, to have the Ibex stand atop the Sharp Verge name and represent the company as its bold and unusual (yet inviting) mascot.

The Design:

Simplicity was paramount when designing the Ibex mascot. So that it’s easily transferable across a wide range of mediums regardless of size and shape, I decided a bold, mono-color silhouette would be the perfect solution to the company’s needs. With the help of negative space, this mascot design can be easily reprinted, resized, and recolored for shirts, hats, posters, advertisements, office supplies, merchandise, and anything else the client can think of.
